The Resort Maps Home Office Team

Peter L. Hans - President
Peter Hans has been the Resort Maps Franchise president since he acquired this family-owned business in 2005. Prior to joining Resort Maps, Peter served as chief operating officer for a Vermont-based technology company. He worked as an investment banker in Zurich and London before settling in Vermont. It was during those twelve years in Europe that Peter was able to fully tap into his love for travel and make a few perfect turns on the slopes of Zermatt and other top European ski resorts. He’s a New Englander at heart having attended St. Michael’s College in Vermont and having fallen in love with Rhode Island where he spends as much time as possible on mini-vacations with his wife and two daughters. His passions include skiing, sailing, golf, tennis and hiking. Aside from his British wife, Sue, his favorite travel partner is Larry Murphy, the man who sold him Resort Maps. “When we do new maps together we golf, laugh, sip single malt and work on the creation of great maps,” Peter says.

Phil Knaub, Franchise Development
Phil and his wife and business partner, Dorothea, purchased their first Resort Maps Franchises in 1997. Phil has held prominent positions in advertising and publishing throughout the years, racking up over thirty years of experience in the hospitality industry and retail world. His parents are credited with giving him the taste for travel since they camped throughout the Northeast as a family during his childhood. “They got my five brothers and me into Scouting,” Phil says. Today Phil loves traveling across the United States, especially to America’s National Parks. He, of course, carries a good number of Resort Maps along on these trips. Phil also enjoys skiing, tennis, kayaking, hiking and golf.

Barbara Murphy - Operations Manager
Barbara works as Resort Maps’ corporate secretary, assuring that the day-to-day activities run smoothly. She’s very much the anchor of the company, particularly since she has been with Resort Maps for twenty years. Barbara loves taking road trips with family and friends and enjoys being spontaneous about packing up the van and hitting the road. No wonder she’s an operations manager.

Thomas "Buddy" Murphy - Production Manager
As Resort Maps’ production specialist, Buddy oversees all aspects of map preparation and web links for both the actual maps, the Resort Maps’ website and the advertisers’ sites. He’s a fan of high peaks and beaches, so it should come as no surprise that he likes snowboarding, sky diving, bungee jumping and fishing. But he likes skiing with his granddaughters most of all.

Doug Heim - Production Manager
Doug has worked twenty-five years in the magazine printing and publishing industry. He joined the Resort Maps team in 2006. His hunger for travel has taken him from the rocky coast of Maine to one-hundred feet beneath the waters of Puget Sound where he had the thrill of touching a twelve-foot octopus. What he appreciates most about air travel is that airplanes allow him to dive in warm water. Not surprisingly, Doug possesses an extensive map collection. “I’ve got maps on every place I’ve been and other destinations that I’m still waiting to explore,” he says.

Lindsey Burger - Production Associate
A degree in graphic design has prepared Lindsey well for her work at Resort Maps. She’s involved with all aspects of map production from map development through final production. She loves her job at Resort Maps since it enables her to travel a lot and learn about different places so that the information can be accurately provided on the maps. Her travels also allow her to embrace two of her other passions: the outdoors and photography.

Robyn Seitz - Franchise Coordinator
Robyn acts as the liaison between the Resort Maps team and the Resort Maps franchisees. As a former General Manager of a prestigious Relais & Chateaux property, she brings over fifteen years of experience in the service and hospitality industries combined to her position. Robyn loves the new perspectives and experiences you gain from travel. She’s also a fan of road trips since they allow you to make last-minute changes to your plans.

Kathleen A. Murphy - Franchise Training
As Resort Maps’ Sales Training Specialist, Kathy has traveled extensively within the U.S. to orient franchisees to the world of Resort Maps. (Franchisee training, however, is conducted in Waitsfield.) Her father was in the Army, so Kathy became accustomed to moving about and adjusting to new places and situations at an early age. She loves to walk as much as possible when traveling but bemoans the fact that she always packs too many shoes. As one of the previous owners of Resort Maps (along with her husband, Larry), Kathy is highly skilled at advertising sales and the general operations of Resort Maps.
